1. Who do I contact if I wish to discuss my personal data and how can I contact them?

Asbestos Watchdog is a trading style of J&S Bridle Associates Ltd a limited liability company with registration number 05071557 and registered address being 10 Y Sgwar Yr Orsaf, Dinas Powys, Cymry, Wales, CF64 4YR. 

We are a family run asbestos consultancy based in South Wales who, with the help of our global network of scientists and journalists, operate the independent free help and advice website “Asbestos Watchdog”.

2. Types of Personal Data That We Collect.

Our website's content management system may use strictly essential cookies which are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. We may use and process personal information in the performance of a contract to carry out our services assisting you with the management of your asbestos related activity and fulfil and complete orders, purchases and payments, in offering our services to you, from the outset we will require you to provide personal data to be collected and processed, you may provide some of this data directly to us when you instruct us for our services.

Where you have provided your consent directly to us or a third party involved in any Asbestos related claim, to share your personal information, we may owing to the expertise of some of our consultants in the industry be called upon by insurers and legal advisors to consider claims relating to asbestos and provide our professional opinion. In doing so we may receive personal data about you in the context of the claim or opinion being sought. 

We will obtain your prior consent If we need to receive and process personal information in the following circumstances:

  • Personal information relating to special categories of personal data, such as race, ethnic origin, political opinion, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union memberships, genetic data, biometric data, data concerning health, sex life or sexual orientation; and

If you have provided your consent to us processing your personal data, you may withdraw the consent at any time. The consequence might be that we are unable to provide certain services to you.

We may use and process your personal information as set out below where it is necessary for us to carry out business activities which are in our legitimate interests.

The Asbestos Watchdog may publish journalist material focused on asbestos issues based on the research it undertakes in bringing publishing matters that are in the public interest under the right of freedom of expression and information. When such material is published we always carefully balance the rights of the individual with that of the public interest when considering publication of personal data under the right of freedom of expression and information. In conducting research of public interest relating to asbestos, we may consider other public sources for collection of data, including court records, Electoral Roll information and information that is already in the public domain.

(f) Uses as required by or permitted by law

Your personal data may also be used for other purposes where required or permitted by law.


6. Sharing personal data.

J&S Bridle Associates Ltd do not sell your information to third parties, but we may work closely with authorised insurers and professional advisors, trusted business partners and affiliates when providing consultancy services in a specific asbestos related matter or legal claim which is protected by privacy and confidentiality to ensure safe keeping of any personal information shared, subject to applicable laws.

When aggregating data to provide statistical or trend analysis on the asbestos industry we will have taken steps to ensure such information is no longer capable of identifying a natural person.

Should it be necessary to share your personal information with a trusted third party; we take steps to ensure that any third party who handle any personal information comply with all relevant data protection legislation and protect your information in the same manner as J&S Bridle Associates Ltd. Personal information will only be disclosed as necessary to enable the third-party to provide the services they have been instructed to carry out on our behalf. 

We aim to use anonymised or aggregated nonspecific data sets where ever possible. Our website may contain links to other third-party websites, J&S Bridle Associates Ltd do not own or control such websites, and we would recommend customers should check third partiy websites privacy statements as to how such data collected maybe used by independent third parties before providing personal data.


7. Where is personal data stored and sent?

We store all personal data securely in the UK, however, owing to the international nature of our business, there may be some instances where your information is processed or stored outside of the EU. Should this be the case, we will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for that transfer and storage as required by applicable law.


8. How long is personal information retained?

Identification data such as names and addresses are kept while there’s a continuing need to keep it. This need will be assessed on a regular basis, and data that’s no longer needed for any purpose will be disposed of.
Contractual relationship data (e.g. a customer who received paid for services), we will be kept for a period of 6 years from the date our relationship ends. We hold personal information considering limitation periods to establish, bring or defend legal claims.  

We may hold data in an archived form for longer than the periods described above, for things like research and development, analytics and analysis, for audit purposes, and as appropriate for establishment, exercise or defence or legal claims. The criteria used to determine the storage period will include the legal limitation of liability period, agreed contractual provisions, applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.

J&S Bridle Associates Ltd do not make any automated decisions or use any systems of profiling processing personal information without human intervention.

You have several rights available to you when it comes to the processing of your personal data, some of which only come into effect from 25th May 2018 under the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
