Active asbestos containing materials (ACMs) management
It is important to remember the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) state that asbestos is only dangerous when disturbed. If it is safely managed and contained, it does not present a health hazard; it can be more dangerous to remove it unnecessarily than to leave it in place and manage it with an appropriate plan.
If your survey has identified the presence of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) that are not in good repair or safely contained, however, there are two common options: removal and encapsulation (the latter being where your asbestos product is specially coated, preventing any future fibre release; often the most cost effective method of treating asbestos products).
