Case Studies

Asbestos Watchdog has clients ranging across many commercial sectors; no job is too large or too small.

Industrial sites, housing sites, factories, hotels, restaurants, theatres, churches, banks, retail outlets and rented accommodation are just some of the commercial parties we have worked with to find appropriate solutions to their asbestos problems. The identities of our clients remain confidential but references are available on request.

The following are just a few typical stories where we have been able to successfully help our clients save large sums of money.

  1. An office building in London had been quoted £14,000 to remove asbestos debris from mains risers. Asbestos Watchdog was called in to inspect the site and we found that half the areas identified as asbestos containing were in fact only plasterboard. We found an alternative solution to the problem for under £3,000.
  2. A haulage company in the Vale of Glamorgan were threatened with prosecution by Environment Agency Inspectors and presented with a totally unreasonable protocol for removal of the asbestos found on their site. They called in Asbestos Watchdog and we were quickly able to correct the overzealous actions of the inspectors, saving them from prosecution and dismissing removal costs of £200,000.
  3. A large commercial building in West Wales had asbestos insulation boards in the suspended ceiling to the main hall. A local surveyor had damaged one of the panels taking samples for testing; this destroyed the fire integrity of the ceiling so £100,000 was quoted to remove the asbestos panels (not including additional costs to replace with non-asbestos containing replacements). Asbestos Watchdog was called in and we gave a risk assessment instruction to remove the one asbestos panel under the HSE's small work's allowance and replaced the panel with a non-asbestos product for a mere £100.
  4. 2 blocks of flats in Kensington, London, were charged £60,000 to remove dangerous insulation from the basement and storage areas. They were then told that another £40,000 was required to remove additional asbestos. The residents' committee called in Asbestos Watchdog and we were able to quickly determine that there never had been any asbestos on site (the fibres were in fact horsehair).
  5. A Southampton seamen's mission run by volunteers received a warning that asbestos they had in their basement would have to be removed by law at a cost that would have closed the mission. Asbestos Watchdog took the matter in hand and proved they had not broken any laws and were not exposing anyone to any risk.
  6. A leisure company was fined many thousands of pounds when they failed to avail themselves of Asbestos Watchdog's offer; however, a neighbouring business on having an enforcement order put on them by the HSE, immediately contacted Asbestos Watchdog and we were able to resolve their problems quicky and efficiently with zero costs imposed.
